Description
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a medication primarily used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes to help lower blood sugar levels.It is also indicated for weight management, including weight loss and maintenance, as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity in adults with a Body Mass Index (BMI)
Contraindications and Warnings
Mounjaro 10mg should not be used by individuals with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). It should be used with caution in patients with a history of pancreatitis, severe kidney disease, gastroparesis, gallbladder disease, or diabetic retinopathy.
Drug Interactions
Mounjaro can delay gastric emptying, which may affect the absorption of orally administered medications. Of particular note, it can reduce the effectiveness of oral birth control pills. Patients taking oral contraceptives may need to use additional or alternative birth control methods for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.
Storage
Mounjaro pens should be stored in the refrigerator between 36⁰F to 46⁰F (2⁰C to 8⁰C) in their original carton to protect them from light. If needed, or while traveling, a pen can be stored at room temperature (up to 86⁰F or 30⁰C) for up to 21 days.
