Description

This medication is designed to be swallowed whole and should not be broken, crushed, chewed, or dissolved, as this can lead to a rapid release of the entire dose and potentially a fatal overdose. The typical dosing schedule for OxyContin is every 12 hours. For opioid-naïve patients or those with severe pain uncontrolled by weaker opioids, a starting dose of 10 mg (or sometimes 5 mg to minimize side effects) every 12 hours is usually recommended.
